Today, a number of college students choose to live off campus by renting an apartment in a community. They may have their own reasons to justify this choice. However, in spite of the freedom and comfort gained from living outside the university, most students still prefer to live in dormitories. From my standpoint, dormitory life is more meaningful and suitable for students who are pursuing higher education.

First, group living in dormitories helps students learn how to relate well to others. Normally, at least 6 students are living under one roof. Thus, each roommate is required to play a part in creating and maintaining a harmonious atmosphere. In a sense, the dormitory is like a campus community which has its basic rules for everyone to obey. With the common goal of building a good environment for all, students will become far more self-conscious than before. They would try to carry on suitable communicationsamong themselves. In the meantime, quarrels, arguments or even conflicts may be unavoidable. Whenever these situations occur, efforts should be made to find the best solutions so as to repair damaged relationships. As soon as the problems are solved, individuals involved may obtain more profound knowledge of techniques used in relating to others. As time goes by, students within such a circle may gradually comprehend the art of human relations.

Second, due to safety concerns, it is better to live on campus. Inside the university, all the dormitory buildings are installed with digital security surveillance, which ensures safer surroundings for students. In addition, safety administrators are also taking charge of these buildings in case dangers or other unexpected incidents take place. As a consequence, dormitories are a safe place to live. In contrast, it might be more risky for young students to live in communities outside campus. Unable to know their tenants and neighbors well, they are likely to be cheated by immoral individuals. Besides, if the place is not close to school, they will have to rush to the classes by taking busy publictransportation. This certainly adds to the safety problem.

Third, living in the dormitory makes campus life more colorful. In most cases, students living off-campus would return to their houses when they finish all their lessons on a given day. Thereafter, they might miss many chances to take part in various activities held on campus in the evening. As for those who live in the dormitory, it is much easier to gain access to events or clubs after class. Without doubt, joining in such activities as often as possible instills endless happiness into an unforgettable university life.

In sum, residing in dormitories is more beneficial to college students. Only in this way can they fully experience the essences of university education. Besides, spending more time with schoolmates also teaches them the art of building good relationships with others. These are all helpful to their future careers. Thus, there is enough evidence to conclude that on-campus dormitories are a better residence for students.
